Life challenges, trauma, and growing up in our imperfect families can create wounds and cause us to shove parts of ourselves deep into the shadows. Hidden from our conscious awareness, these kinks then stir up symptoms like depression and anxiety.
Sometimes psychotherapy helps clients bring these unconscious aspects of themselves into the light. Sometimes psychotherapy helps clients process traumatic memories that are suspended as if still happening in the present. And sometimes psychotherapy helps clients accept these aspects or develop skills to work more constructively with them.
I offer telehealth psychotherapy to clients in Washington State that addresses the following areas and more:
Depression
Feelings of low mood, loss of interest or energy for life, irritability, and even suicidality
Anxiety
Distress associated with socialization and certain activities
Trauma
The effects of intense experiences and early life conditions (e.g., flashbacks, intrusive memories, anxiety, and difficult patterns of relating)
Couples
Relationship challenges like communications, conflict, and discordant attachment styles
Emotional dysregulation
Lack of awareness of own emotions or difficulty getting “unstuck” from difficult feelings
Compulsions
Habitual patterns of thought and behavior that are difficult to shake (e.g., compulsive thoughts, disordered eating, substance and process addictions)
